How to join a server on Valheim?

Joining a Valheim server can be done in several ways depending on the host's configuration: by direct connection (IP), via the community list, through crossplay or by invitation between friends. Here's each method, step by step.

1. Direct connection by IP

This is the most reliable method for a dedicated server. Launch the game, choose your character, then in the Join tab, click Join IP and enter the address in the format IP:2456. Enter the password, and you're connected.

2. Via the community server list

If the server is launched as public, it appears in the Community tab. Search for its name, select it, enter the password and join. Handy, but the list is long: direct connection is still faster.

3. Via PC / Xbox crossplay

If the server has crossplay enabled, PC and Xbox players meet through the same connection code. It's the ideal solution for a mixed group, provided the host supports it (see which host to choose).

4. By invitation between friends

For a game hosted by a friend (peer-to-peer), they just need to be connected and you join through the Steam friends list or crossplay. Reminder: this method depends on the host being present.
