How much RAM for a FiveM server?

On FiveM, memory follows the scripts before it follows the players. Count on 2 GB for a test server or a small project, 8 GB for a full ESX or QBCore server with around thirty players, and 16 GB for a busy RP loaded with jobs, add-on vehicles and MLOs. Beyond that, the limit is no longer memory but processor clock speed, because FiveM runs most of its work on a single core.

What drives memory up

  • The number of started resources: every loaded script stays in memory permanently.
  • MLOs and custom interiors, very heavy in map data.
  • Add-on vehicles, whose models are loaded server-side for distribution.
  • Poorly optimised database queries, piling up results in memory.

Signs you are short on memory

  • The server drops at a player count it held yesterday, with no script change.
  • Regular hitches visible in txAdmin, lining up with connection peaks.
  • Players stuck on the loading screen after a resource update.
  • An automatic restart that fixes it temporarily: the signature of a memory leak.

Frequently asked questions

How many slots can I open with 8 GB?

A well-kept ESX or QBCore server comfortably holds thirty to forty players on 8 GB. It is not a hard ceiling: a script-light server goes further, one loaded with MLOs saturates earlier. Memory sets the upper limit, script quality sets the real one.

Do badly optimised scripts really cost that much?

Yes, and it is the leading cause of saturation. A loop running every frame server-side, or an SQL query without an index, costs more than twenty extra players. txAdmin lets you spot the guilty resources before buying memory you do not need.

Should I prioritise RAM or the processor?

The processor, once memory is sufficient. FiveM depends on single-core performance: that is what keeps a busy server smooth. Our machines run on a Ryzen 9 7950X3D, chosen precisely for that.
