How do you create a private ARK Survival Ascended server?

Creating a private ARK: Survival Ascended server can be done in two ways: self-hosting on your own machine (free but technical and very demanding) or through a host (paid, but ready in a few seconds). Here are both methods, step by step.
Method 1: self-host on your PC
1. Install the dedicated server
The ARK Ascended dedicated server installs via SteamCMD (or Steam's dedicated server tool). Plan for several dozen GB of disk space: the game files are large.
2. Check that the machine can handle the load
ASA is very demanding on RAM and CPU. Count on at least 8 to 16 GB of free RAM and a recent high-frequency processor. On a modest PC, the server and your game fight for resources → guaranteed lag.
3. Configure and launch
Set the server name, the password (to make it private) and the game settings, then launch the dedicated server executable. The detailed settings are explained in how to configure your ARK Ascended server.
4. Open the ports (the tedious step)
For your friends to connect from outside, you need to open the ports required by ARK on your router (NAT forwarding) and share your public IP. This is where many get stuck: dynamic IP, firewall, some ISPs' CGNAT…
The limits of self-hosting
- Your PC must stay on permanently for the server to be reachable.
- It shares its power with your other uses, which is critical given how demanding ASA is.
- No Anti-DDoS protection: exposing your personal IP is risky.
- Backups, updates and security are on you.
Method 2: go through a host (the simplest)
A host removes all the technical parts: no ports to open, no IP to expose, server online 24/7. At Fly-Serv, creation is instant: you choose your offer, the server is delivered in a few seconds, and the FlyPanel panel lets you set a password, choose the map and manage mods in one click.
For a private server among friends, a host avoids exposing your IP and leaving your PC on day and night, real comfort on a game as heavy as ASA.
Conclusion
If you want a stable private ARK Ascended server with no hassle, create it with Fly-Serv from €8.99/month, instant delivery and Anti-DDoS included. Once online, fine-tune it to perfection thanks to our ASA configurations and the configuration guide.
