Creating a V Rising server: SteamCMD or turnkey

There are two routes to give birth to your V Rising world, and they demand neither the same time nor the same skills. The first goes through SteamCMD and a good dose of networking; the second through a host that provisions everything for you. Here are both, with no grey areas.
Route 1: install it yourself via SteamCMD
1. Download the dedicated server
Get SteamCMD and install the V Rising Dedicated Server app (it downloads separately from the game). You get the server executable and an empty saves folder.
2. Generate the config files
On first launch, the server creates ServerHostSettings.json (name, ports, slots, password) and ServerGameSettings.json (PvE/PvP rules, harvest, bosses). The detail of each key is in our dedicated configuration guide.
3. Fill in name, slots and ports
Edit ServerHostSettings.json: Name, MaxConnectedUsers, an optional Password, and the ports (9876 for the game, 9877 for the query, in UDP).
4. Open the ports (the step that gets stuck)
For the clan to get in from outside, forward the UDP ports 9876 and 9877 on your router and share your public IP. Dynamic IP, firewall, CGNAT: this is where most solo projects bog down.
What the SteamCMD route leaves you to manage
- PC on continuously or the server is unreachable.
- Power shared with your other uses, so lag during raids.
- No Anti-DDoS: personal IP exposed in PvP.
- Updates, mods and backups entirely manual.
Route 2: go through a turnkey host
The host erases the entire networking side: no SteamCMD, no port to open, no exposed IP. At Fly-Serv, the server is provisioned in seconds with an address ready to share, and FlyPanel starts the server, installs the mods and edits ServerGameSettings.json with one click.
Choose SteamCMD if tinkering with networking is fun for you; choose the host if you'd rather your first evening be spent killing bosses, not debugging your router.
Conclusion
For a clan aiming for the long haul, create your V Rising server with Fly-Serv from €6.99/month. Wondering whether a truly free path holds up? The answer is in our article on free V Rising servers, then compare our offers.
