What are the best mods for a Rust server?

On Rust, a well-thought-out modded server changes everything: easier management, automatic events, quality of life and anti-cheat. Almost everything goes through Oxide (uMod), the reference plugin framework. Here are the best mods to know and how to choose them without turning your server into a bloated mess.
The foundation: Oxide / uMod
Before any plugin, you need to install Oxide/uMod on your server: it's what loads the .cs extensions dropped into the oxide/plugins folder. On a host, this is set by changing the "server type" in the panel, without touching an archive by hand.
The essential administration plugins
- AdminRadar / Vanish: see and moderate without being detected, indispensable against cheaters.
- RustAdmin / RCON: administer remotely, manage bans and commands live.
- EnhancedBanSystem: clean bans, shared across several servers.
Quality of life (QoL) and fun
- Kits: gives starter or VIP gear (use in moderation so it doesn't break the farm).
- Teleportation (TPR): teleportation between players, in high demand on PvE.
- ZLevels / Skills: skill progression (gathering, crafting) that builds loyalty.
- Backpacks: extra inventory, appreciated on less-vanilla servers.
Automatic events (the connection peaks)
Event plugins (Convoy, RaidableBases, ArmoredTrain) trigger animations at fixed times. It's these event evenings that generate the big player peaks… and also attract attacks: hence the value of a permanent Anti-DDoS.
Golden rule: install plugins one by one and test. A plugin that's obsolete after a wipe can prevent the server from starting: remove the last one added if there's a problem.
Don't overload the server
Each plugin consumes RAM and CPU. Since Rust is already very demanding, stacking 40 plugins on a weak machine guarantees lag. Hardware quality comes first: a Ryzen 9 7950X3D and NVMe handle far more than an old shared server.
Do it simply
The FlyPanel panel on our Rust servers lets you enable Oxide and install your uMod plugins in one click, without FTP. Before adding mods, set the basics first: see How to configure a Rust server? And to host all that without lag, discover Fly-Serv's Rust server offer, from €8.99/month.
