How do you set up a Satisfactory server?

Setting up a Satisfactory server means preparing the Satisfactory Dedicated Server so it runs 24/7 without leaving your PC switched on. Once installed (via SteamCMD or a host), configuration comes down to a few key settings: admin access, saves and performance parameters. Here is how to do it.

The first launch and admin access

On the first start, the Satisfactory Dedicated Server creates an empty session that you have to connect to from the game to initialise it. The very first connection asks you to claim the server (Claim Server) and to define:

• A server name visible in the session list.
• An administrator password: essential for managing the session, creating/loading saves and changing options.
• A game password (optional) if you want a private server reserved for your friends.

The settings that really matter

• Autosave: enable frequent automatic saves. Satisfactory holds enormous factories; losing 2 hours of production hurts.
• Tickrate / network performance: Satisfactory is RAM-hungry and CPU-hungry as the factory grows. A stable tick avoids rubberbanding on conveyors.
• Number of saves kept: keep several restore points in case a blueprint breaks the base.
• Auto-load of the last session so the server starts back up on its own after a reboot.

Golden rule: the more massive your factory, the more RAM you need. A small save starts fine, but an end-game megafactory can demand 8 to 12 GB just to run without lag.
