How do you create a dedicated Satisfactory server?

Creating a dedicated Satisfactory server can be done two ways: manual installation via SteamCMD on your own machine (free but technical) or via a host (paid, but ready in a few seconds). The point of a dedicated server: the game supports up to 4 players in co-op, but a 24/7 dedicated server keeps the factory active even when nobody is connected: your machines keep producing.

Method 1: install the server via SteamCMD

1. Download SteamCMD

SteamCMD is Steam's command-line tool for installing dedicated servers. Download it, extract it into a dedicated folder and run it once so it updates itself.

2. Install the Satisfactory Dedicated Server

The Satisfactory Dedicated Server carries App ID 1690800. In SteamCMD, log in anonymously then start the installation with app_update 1690800 validate. The tool downloads the server files.

3. Launch and open the ports

Start the server executable, then open the necessary ports on your router (NAT forwarding). Satisfactory notably uses port 7777 (UDP/TCP). This is often where beginners get stuck: dynamic IP, firewall, CGNAT on some ISPs.

The limits of self-hosting

  • The machine has to stay on permanently for the factory to run 24/7.
