Set Up a Frozen Flame Server: the 2 methods, step by step

Riding a dragon above the frozen world of Dragos, raising a shared base and pushing back the creatures as a squad: Frozen Flame only reveals its real depth in co-op. But that still takes a server that stays standing when nobody is playing host. Two routes are open to you: build your own dedicated server with SteamCMD, or hand the install over to a host. We walk both, from the command line all the way to the first shared campfire.

Route A: build your own dedicated server with SteamCMD

Get SteamCMD

The Frozen Flame dedicated server is deployed via SteamCMD, Valve's command-line utility. Unzip it into a clean folder, then run it once empty: it updates itself before accepting a single command.

Download the server application

Still inside SteamCMD, request the download of the Frozen Flame dedicated server app via its App ID. The binaries land in the install directory you picked, ready to be configured.

Set the memory and start up

Launch the executable while granting an amount of RAM proportional to the size of the world and the number of adventurers expected. A handful of friends only needs a few GB; a densely built open world calls for a good deal more. The full rundown of options (name, password, save cadence) is covered in our guide to configuring a dedicated Frozen Flame server.

Open the ports (the step where people get stuck)

For your companions to join you from outside, you have to forward the server's ports on your router and share your public IP. A dynamic IP that keeps changing, an over-zealous firewall and the CGNAT some ISPs use stop a lot of beginners dead here.

What self-hosting really costs you

  • The machine has to stay on around the clock, otherwise the world vanishes for everyone.
  • Playing on the same PC as the server means sharing the CPU, and so harvesting lag right in the middle of a dragon hunt.
  • Zero Anti-DDoS filtering: your personal address is on the front line.
  • Backups, version upgrades and security rest entirely on your shoulders.

Route B: hand it over to a host

A host wipes out all the network plumbing: no ports to fiddle with, no private IP exposed, a world online without interruption. At Fly-Serv, deployment is instant: you confirm your plan and the Frozen Flame dedicated server appears within seconds on Ryzen 9 7950X3D nodes, Anti-DDoS included and managed from FlyPanel.

A weekend of testing with friends? Self-hosting does the job. A world that has to survive your absences? A host gives you every evening back without the technical chores.

Take action

For a stable co-op epic reachable at any hour, launch your Frozen Flame server with Fly-Serv from 3,99 €/mois. Still weighing the budget? Open How much does a Frozen Flame server cost? and compare the configurations on the Frozen Flame hosting page.
